The announcement of the November 15th, 2011 release of the new Amazon tablet, the Kindle Fire, has generated lots of buzz. The tablet is nowshipping, but should you go ahead and order it?I’ve been following rumors of the Amazon tablet with great interest, and thus rushed to the Kindle Fire site as soon as it was announced. I was impressed with the specs, I considered the most obviouspros and cons, and then ended up hitting the order button. When searching for Kindle Fire reviews, Google turns up an incredible number of hits, but, quite frankly, a lot of them seem spammy and useless. So instead I’ve scoured the tech sites that I’ve come to trust for reviews, and have summarized my research below. Enjoy! And stay tuned!

Summary of Kindle Fire Reviews

From Reputable Tech Sites

The review sources I used for my summary are listed at the bottom of this page. Please, let me know if you have any more questions!
  1. $199 is an amazingly low price for what Kindle Fire offers.
  2. Kindle Fire is capable of most things that tablets are expected to do:
browse the web, send email, stream videos, run apps (twitter, facebook, etc.), play games, and, of course, load books, and even borrow ebooks from the library.
  3. Kindle Fire lacks some premium features (camera, microphone, 3G access), so buyers be aware.
  4. The tablet looks beautiful, interface is very slick, doesn’t look cheap.
  5. Kindle Fire matches the competition as far as processors go (1GHz Dual Core TI).
  6. The tablet’s storage capacity is lower than that of the competition, only 8GB, but Amazon is providing unlimited cloud storage, so it should be no problem.
  7. Kindle Fire is a 7 inch tablet – smaller than traditional 10 inch tablets like iPad 2, so those who like bigger screens, be aware.
  8. Kindle Fire is lighter than the bigger tablets (0.9 pounds vs 1.33 for iPad 2).
  9. Kindle Fire runs a brand new browser, Amazon Silk, which utilizes cloud technology (and should run faster than traditional browsers), but without testing it reviewers are not sure how good it will be.
  10. A lot of people who don’t own a tablet now, will buy the Kindle Fire.
  11. Kindle Fire is meant for a different market segment than iPad 2, but will take some business away from Apple.
  12. The Amazon tablet will not be the iPad killer because iPad 2 is still superior in terms of function, and there are plenty of tech lovers and Apple fans who want only the best.
  13. Amazon will happily sell you their digital products whether you are using Kindle Fire or iPad 2.
  14. Other (than Apple) tablet manufacturers will suffer greatly.

Whether or not you consider yourself to be a techie, it’s hard to miss the major release of a new “it” product. You’ve no doubt heard, then, about this week’s hot ticket item: the all new Kindle Fire. In fact, you probably already own one. With a full color, seven-inch touchscreen display and faster processing power than ever before, this savvy E-Reader is at the top of everyone’s wish list. It even comes with built in WiFi, but there is one feature you may still find yourself wanting: 3G internet.

Though equipped with convenient WiFi capability, there is no specific Kindle Fire 3G network available at this time, leaving it up to you, the excited owner of a brand new Kindle Fire, to figure out how to connect to a nationwide 3G wireless network. But don’t worry; you don’t have to let go of your dream of lightning-fast internet just because you bought a Kindle Fire that only has WiFi. In fact, you can still have a Kindle Fire 3G connection wherever you go, with TruConnect’s wireless broadband services.

It works like this: you have a Kindle Fire and you want 3G internet speeds, so you purchase a MiFi wireless device from TruConnect which allows you to set up an instant mobile hotspot for up to five wireless devices.  Now get out your new Kindle Fire and start surfing. It’s that simple. Installation is a snap, and the device itself is smaller than a deck of cards and highly portable. Now you’re connected to one of the fastest growing, most reliable networks in the country: Sprint’s Nationwide Broadband Wireless 3G network. And the best part is, it goes wherever you go.

Why limit yourself to perusing the web in just one place? Our MiFi enables you to take your Kindle Fire 3G network with you anywhere you go. Imagine you’re on a bus headed to the office, reading the news on your new Kindle Fire, when you suddenly remember you need to read an email before your morning meeting. Unless you already have broadband wireless 3G for your laptop or other device, it’s going to be difficult to connect to a network in a moving vehicle. You’ll arrive at work, the only one who hasn’t read the memo. But wait! You have the ultra-convenient MiFi stashed in your pocket, and all you have to do is turn it on to be instantly connected to the Sprint network. And if your colleague is sitting next to you, you can even share your connection (if you’re feeling generous).

Think of places you want wireless 3G internet but there are usually no networks to be found: the park, for example. Maybe you’re picnicking with the family and the kids have brought their gaming devices, tablet computers and mp3 players with them for a little afternoon entertainment. Maybe you also brought your new Kindle Fire! Fortunately, you’ve also got your MiFi and can connect up to five devices to the internet, so there’s no arguing over the connection or worrying about having to share. Everyone can have their music, movies and games right at their fingertips. With MiFi, you have the peace of mind that your Kindle Fire 3G connection will be ready for action; wherever, whenever. And with a revolutionary new way to pay, internet just got a whole lot cheaper.

With TruConnect’s pay-as-you-go plan, you pay only for data that you actually use. Sure, you could get a traditional flat-rate plan to get your Kindle Fire 3G connection. But then you’d also be getting a lengthy contract, a confusing service bundle, hidden activation fees, cancelation penalties and a commitment of at least a year or two. A contract means you can’t change companies, even when other providers are unveiling better deals on internet service. And a monthly flat rate means you’re paying for data you aren’t using; if you are using all the data you’re paying for, you’re probably going over the monthly data cap set by your provider, and being steeply penalized for it as well.

With TruConnect’s MiFi, you pay only for the data you use, with no contract, no service bundle, no hidden fees and no penalties. It’s just simple, honest internet. Starting at $4.99 a month and 3.9 cents per megabyte of data used, our plan actually bends to accommodate your needs instead of the other way around. You don’t want to have to worry that you read too many magazines or checked too many emails and went over your data cap this month; you just got a new Kindle Fire and should be able to use it to your heart’s content! Our service plan ensures that you get the most effective, budget-friendly Kindle Fire 3G connection that money can buy. In fact, the average internet user can save up to $600 annually, not including the fact that the device itself is much more affordable than other mobile hotspot devices.

So what are you waiting for? You’ve got the new Kindle Fire, now get connected! There simply is no better way to connect to a 3G broadband network: contract free, commitment free, pay as you go. If you don’t like our MiFi, just return it within 90 days, no questions asked. TruConnect offers you a risk-free opportunity to get the wireless Kindle Fire 3G connection you need on a network you can trust. With the amount you’ll save by paying only for data you use, you’ll be able to find a secluded spot in the tropics to catch up on your Kindle reading; and don’t forget to pack your MiFi!

New Amazon Kindle products (L-R), Kindle Touch...New Amazon Kindle Fire (L-R), Kindle Touch, Kindle Fire tablet and new Kindle are displayed at a press conference in New York on September 28, 2011. Amazon launched new versions of its Kindle e-reader in late 2011. It launched its first tablet – the Kindle Fire – to take onApple‘s iPad, Barnes & Noble’s Nook and other Google Android tablets in the market. It also launched an upgraded version of the original Kindle as well as the new Kindle Touch, a touch-based variant of the Kindle. Amazon competes with traditional book publishers, Apple’s iBooks, and Google Books.

The company initially launched the new Kindles only in a few markets, including the U.S., but has now has started rolling out its Kindle devices globally. This week, it announced that it will be launching the Kindle Touch 3G in more than 175 countries. The new device is now available for pre-order and will start shipping from April 27. The Kindle Touch 3G will support additional languages, offer free 3G connectivity to download books anywhere, offer Wi-Fi support and several other features to improve the user’s book reading experience.

Though the Kindle Fire hardware business is a low-margin business for Amazon, accounting for less than 3% of its overall value, we expect increased Kindle sales to drive Amazon’s core business – selling e-books and other multimedia content online, which accounts for nearly 23% of its total value. We have a $205 Trefis price estimate for Amazon, which stands 2% above its market price.
